In today’s blog we’re gonna dive into my Joshua Tree Adventure with Erica and David going over both engagements and wedding decor!! So, our original goal was to achieve a dreamy-editorial look with some Pinterest vibes thrown around, but of course our creative minds started wandering so we decided to lower our blissful expectations a wee bit by letting go and just have a BLAST!! This turned out to be one of the best photoshoots to date, but before I tell you why, let me tell you a bit about Erica and David.

WE ARE HERE!! We have officially finished the moving process and are now starting the metamorphosis from concrete jungle dwellers to desert nomads!!

Despite the coffee-crazed, box stuffing, and stress-filled week before our bittersweet departure from the PNW, I had the utmost pleasure of photographing one of the most deserving families….

First, let’s start from the beginning, what is a headshot? Well, a headshot is a professionally captured photograph of a person from the shoulders up, the photograph is cut or cropped in order to give focus to the person, not any product one is selling or background details. You’re probably thinking “okay so what’s the difference between a headshot and a portrait then?” The difference between a headshot and a portrait is distinguished with the model being camera aware and often looking directly at the camera with minimal posing and slight variations of facial expressions such as smiling with or without teeth and relaxing the mouth for a more neutral look.

photography history is interesting but what we’re really here to chat about is how photos are special to us, what brings value to the photographs we know and love today? Let’s all think back to digging through our family albums or those moments when our grandparents would share with us stories behind their family photographs from the early 1900s. Photographs are a way to capture our family history, to document who’s been an influential part of our family’s lineage.

Throughout my career as a photographer, I have had the opportunity to work with a few up and coming bada** professional women. From therapists, to tv personalities and tech industry workers, women are powerful and deserve the best photos for their businesses AND themselves!

Unless you’re a model, content creator or influencer most people don’t get their portraits taken very often, especially if it’s a family session. Family sessions are slightly more upscale since there’s more people involved, so outfit coordination can test anyone’s styling abilities, but it’s so rewarding in the end!!
