The Mini Blog Series: How to Find The BEST Photographer For... | Arizona, PNW & Beyond

The big holiday season has come to pass and we’re now approaching our final stretch of winter, so you’re probably thinking “spring is coming up, the sunshine will be out, let’s find someone to take portraits or family photos,” or you’re thinking “I want that fresh spring golden hour energyyy!!” Well, the first step to finding the best photographer is narrowing it down to a style you’re looking for, like something more posed and potentially in a studio or maybe something more candid in nature.

The Trend: Candid vs. Posed

Right now a big trend we’re seeing in portrait photography is more impromptu or unposed captures of a person, couple or family (i.e. running in a field, laughing together, dancing, etc). Since this style trend in photography is so popular right now, many photographers have taken on a much more relaxed method to capturing portraits, this often expresses the beauty of rendering a single moment in time to be more effortless. The candid approach allows for the photographer to really convey the personalities of their clients, making this such a unique experience for getting your portraits taken.

Despite candid photography being so trendy it doesn’t mean that it’s the only way to get beautifully crafted photos taken of you, your family or loved ones. Directed, instructed and posed portraits is a fantastic way to have your photo taken, sometimes when you’ve never had the experience of being photographed you may feel like you have no idea what to do with your face, arms or legs. So, having your photographer help direct you into a favorable position may not only help your confidence, but this will give the photographer a little bit more oversight into how the photos will turn out based on all the factors they were able to use at their disposal.

Editing & Post-Production: Color & Tone

Style isn’t only confined to whether you’ll be posed or unposed during your session, photography is much more than gestures, laughs and the click of a button, there’s a lot of skill, technique both pre and post production. After your photographer has finished your session they will move their efforts into the post production phase of editing. During this stage they’ll make sure the lighting is right, the texture of the photograph is up to their standards, and the colors or tones of the photograph stay consistent in their overall theme of their work.

How this Impacts You: Picking the right person?

How this might impact you really depends on how the photos of the photographer makes you feel. If the poses don’t feel right, or the style is not quite what you're looking for, THAT'S OKAY!! Ultimately these are photos that are capturing a moment in time for you. So I’d rather you pick a photographer with a style and vibe that suits your lifestyle or draws you in the most. If you look at my photos and like the casual, connection, and moodier version of true to life colors, then I’m the photographer for YOU!!
