Photography Consult; Why its important! | Wedding Photography | Washington & Arizona

Why Your Wedding Consultation Call Matters More Than You Think

One thing I always ask my couples during their consultation is how they met and what their engagement story is. WHY? Well, because I genuinely want to know my couples. I want you to feel like I’m not just selling you something! TRULY I’m want to build a real connection so I can deliver the best images ever. That connection, that comfort, that understanding of who you are as a couple… THIS is why I think a consult is so important.

Whether you’re planning a wedding in Arizona, Washington or LITERALLY ANYWHERE a consultation call gives us the chance to really understand each other. From the warmth of Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Sedona, to the moody PNW vibes of Seattle, The Islands or Bellingham, every location has its own magic. And connecting beforehand helps me create images that feel intentional, emotional, and true to your story. NO MATTER where your wedding day takes place.

Consultation calls are so important especially if you decide to skip the engagement photos (WHICH IS OKAY BY THE WAY). You still want to know who I am, what working with me feels like, and if my energy matches yours. And on my end, I want to understand you your vibe, your comfort level, your priorities for the day. A consult gets all your questions answered way before you ever book officially or start planning anything in depth.

As a wedding photographer shooting in both Arizona and Washington (And literally anywhere else) I genuinely love doing these consultations because they’re so helpful in getting everyone on the same page. Whether we’re planning for the crisp mountain light in Leavenworth, the lush forests of the Olympic Peninsula, or a downtown Seattle rooftop wedding, that first call sets the tone for everything. There’s something really special about meeting for the first time and feeling that spark of “okay, yes… these are my people.”

Most of my couples end up becoming long-term connections whether it’s future photography for growing families, branding sessions, new jobs, or even just staying connected personally. It all starts with one intentional conversation.

So here are a few things I think are the most important to cover in your wedding consult call with a photographer:

YOUR LOVE STORY — How you met, your engagement, and the little details that make your relationship unique.

THE MOOD BOARD — What you imagine for your wedding day, the mood, the colors, the experience. This helps me create the modern, fun, and elegant images I’m known for in both Arizona and Washington.

WHATS IMPORTANT— What matters most to you in your photos: candid moments, portraits, details, family shots, etc.

ARE WE A FIT— Making sure we’re a good fit and you feel comfortable, relaxed, and excited to work together.

LOGISTICS— Timeline questions, package details, and anything you’re unsure or nervous about—especially if you’re planning around desert sunsets in Arizona or the unpredictable (but beautiful) Washington weather.

At the end of the day, these calls aren’t only aformality they’re the foundation for everything that follows. Your consultation helps me show up as the best version of your photographer, and it helps you feel confident, prepared, and totally taken care of. And honestly? They’re one of my favorite parts of the entire process.

If you’re looking for an Arizona or Washington wedding photographer who values connection, storytelling, and a stress-free experience from the very first call, I’d love to chat with you.
