Sea & Soil Psychotherapy | Therapist Branding | Seattle, WA
A Note from Andrea:
Jess and Gennarose have become some of my favorite people. Not only did they hire me to do thier buisness photos. We also learned we have a lot in common. One of which is BEING A THERAPIST! AND they are in a buisness partnership just like me and my own therapy business partner. We have remained connected and its been really special having friendships in our field that are really similar to us.
Sea & Soil Psychotherapy
Introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about your story?
Jess and I met in Fall 2021 while working in community mental health and quickly became close friends by early 2022. After recognizing deep misalignment in values at our agency, we both made the decision to leave together and advocate for more ethical care. We continued working in group practice from 2023–2025 before opening Soil & Sea Psychotherapy in October 2025. From the beginning, our vision has been rooted in community and collective care—something we even started dreaming up on our first 1:1 camping trip, where we spent the majority of the car ride towards the coast imagining creative, meaningful ways to connect with clients.
What is your business name, and who is your absolute dream client?
Our practice, Soil & Sea Psychotherapy, is rooted in relational, depth-oriented psychotherapy with a slightly philosophical lens. Our dream clients are people who are curious, open, and willing to explore themselves more deeply. Clients who have an itch to expand their knowing of themselves and are ready to take a deep dive and explore how varying systems may have shaped them.
Why did you start your business?
We started our practice to create work that truly aligns with our values. We wanted more agency and transparency in how we show up for clients, especially around care, billing, and accessibility. After experiencing the strain of low pay, high caseloads, and unrealistic standards, we felt called to build something more sustainable and intentional. We both agree that it was the best career choice we have ever made.
Were you nervous about anything before booking with me?
We were both pretty nervous about posing! Neither of us feel comfortable being in front of the camera and didn’t know what to expect! But it ended up being such a FUN and easy experience, which really surprised us. Andrea did a really great job at meeting us where we were at and helping us to feel comfy throughout the experience.
What is your favorite thing about owning and running your business?
Our favorite part is the sense of agency. We get to collaborate, move at a pace that feels sustainable (and more natural), and build something that reflects our shared values. There’s also a sense of financial freedom and relief in not relying on systems that don’t align with how we believe care should be provided.
What was the main goal for this branding session?
Our main goal was to launch our website and begin establishing our practice. Having professional photos taken really helped us feel more confident, grounded, and connected to what we were building. Plus, they turned out so cute!
